Achieving the highest standard is an underlying principle of all work done at SGS. Naturally, it should follow that we quickly achieved UL approval for central station monitoring software under regulation of the Second Edition Standard for Central Station Automation Systems, UL 1981.

After preliminary product review in California, USA Central hosted SGS and UL for a grueling week of on-site testing in Port Chester New York. Bryan Weissman headed the project for SGS, conducted all the tests and created the documentation – our congratulations for a great achievement! Brian Jacobson and the team at USA helped enormously in sending the volume of signals needed to test each receiver. stages™ is now approved with most major industry receivers. The use of a wiki helped us adjust our documentation quickly to all UL requirements. The wiki approach has been a great asset for disseminating important documentation – without cutting down a single tree or sending volumes of documents to customers.

There was one test where USA drew the line. When we had to do a “crash” test where the live computer was unplugged – they said NO! In spite of UL requirements, everyone understood their reluctance to crash a “live” system. We moved the test to the SGS Lab in California. We are pleased to report that all our computers are still in working condition and the test has been passed!

For many of the customers we service, UL approval is mandatory and is included at no additional charge in all implementations. stages™ software also includes multi-site redundancy with automatic failover switching for operators and receivers to assure the greatest system reliability.

Everything is now UL approved and ready to go!
